Amazon will cut more than 18,000 employees. According to Engadget, CEO Andy Jesse acknowledged that the company would have to lay off more employees than it originally intended.

The first reports of dismissal appeared in November. Then it was about reducing 10,000 workers. Now, however, it turned out that almost twice as many employees will fall under the reduction.

The vast majority of those who lose their jobs currently work in recruiting and retail departments. According to The Wall Street Journal, the situation at Amazon improved significantly during the quarantine, when there was a “boom” in online purchases. At that time, the company hired several hundred thousand workers to respond to the surge in demand. However, when it turned out that some units were not profitable, they began to be reduced.

Dismissals will take place in the coming weeks, the publication reports.
