“Abnormally large volume” of failed attempts to log in to the Norton Password Manager was recorded on December 12, 2022. According to the company, this indicates an attack by hackers who massively check the combinations of logins and passwords that they received from other sources.

In messages to NortonLifeLock users , the company notes that its own systems have not been compromised and stresses that the cause of the attack is not the lack of security of Norton Password Manager. At the same time, the company’s specialists express confidence that the username and passwords for accounts have become the “prey” of an unauthorized third party.

According to the publication, an internal investigation showed that a certain number of records were successfully hacked. The company’s specialists dropped passwords to compromised accounts, and also took measures to counter cyber attackers.

The number of affected accounts was not disclosed. At the same time, the company notes that about 925 thousand accounts, both active and inactive, were under attack.

Earlier, we reported that cybercriminals posted the email addresses of more than 200 million Twitter users on a hacker forum.
