The authorities of Hamburg have invested €18 million in the implementation of an urban experimental program of autonomous vehicles that will serve the public network vehicles driven by AI. It is reported by The Mayor.

The main investor was the Federal Ministry of Transport of Germany together with Minister Volker Wissing. The purpose of the new project is to provide communication between residential areas and transit hubs. Transport must run at intervals of five minutes.

The funds will be used to finance the so-called hvv hop program. It should ensure that 10,000 autonomous shuttles run through the city by 2030. Already in January this year, the first 28 vehicles went on the route. By 2025, the number of cars will increase by 20 units.
