Meta is ending support for NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. This was announced on Twitter by the head of commerce and financial technology at Meta Stefan Kasriel.

Kasriel noted that the company is discontinuing “issuing digital collectibles (NFTs)” that have lasted less than a year on the platform.

From now on, he said, new ways should be sought to “support creators, people and businesses.” He added that it is worth focusing on “monetization opportunities for Reels and payments using messaging in Meta.”

As a reminder, NFT testing on Facebook began in early summer 2022. Users now have the opportunity to post on Facebook and Instagram the digital collectibles they had in their digital wallets. By connecting a digital wallet to one of the applications, users automatically accessed NFTs on both social networks. In August 2022, Meta has already expanded access to NFT features on Instagram in dozens of countries.
