The head of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk in an interview with BBC journalist James Clayton admitted that the acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion was forced. The main reason is a lawsuit against the billionaire, according to TechCrunch.

I had to do it. I went for it because I believed that the court would force me to complete the deal. This is the main reason for acquiring a social network.

Musk noted that he would be forced to acquire the company in any case – either on his own initiative or by order of the court. He admitted that he tried to get out of the deal in the fall of 2022. But his lawyers insisted that it is worth completing the acquisition procedure yourself, because the verdict of the court is likely not in his favor.

In September 2022 , Twitter filed a lawsuit against Musk to force him to fulfill his obligations to acquire the company for $44 billion. Musk tried to prove that the amount was too high, insisting that the social network hides the true number of bots on the platform.
