It is reported that the board of directors of Rovio has already supported the decision to conclude a deal worth $776 million. The acquisition of the developer of the “world’s most beloved” game, according to Sega Sammy Holdings CEO Haruki Satomi, will help expand Rovio’s presence in the mobile gaming market.

For his part, Rovio CEO Alexandre Pelletier-Norman expressed confidence that “combining brands, world-famous and iconic characters, fan base” and “corporate culture and functionality” of both companies will lead to the achievement of “significant synergies”.

Founded in 1960, Sega gained popularity with its Sonic the Hedgehog and Total War franchises. She is also the creator of game consoles Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, which were popular in the 90s around the world.
