Specificity Instagram assumes that other users may mention you by linking to your account in their own stories, comments, live broadcasts and subtitles. To avoid unwanted attention and spam, it’s a good idea to set up mentions and tags.

How to set mentions in Instagram

  1. Click an icon of three horizontal bars in the upper-right corner. Tap on the “Settings and privacy” wheel.
  2. Select the “How others can interact with you” menu item.
  3. Under “Mentions“, select the option you want: allow all mentions, allow mentions from those you follow, or not allow mentions.

Control who can tag you

  1. Click the three horizontal bars icon in the upper-right corner. Select the “Settings and privacy” wheel.
  2. Select the “How others can interact with you” menu item.
  3. Select the “How others can interact with you” menu item.
  4. Under Tags, choose whether you want to allow all tags, allow flags from those you follow up, or don’t allow tags.

Default photos and videos of you tagged, automatically added to your account. Note that people you’ve blocked won’t be able to flag or mention you.
