The Facebook outage caused users of the social network to automatically receive friend requests from people viewing their profile. The issue occurred on May 19, according to The Daily Beast.
Meta did not deny the existence of the bug, and confirmed that the failure was caused by a Facebook app update.
This caused Facebook friend requests to be mistakenly submitted. We have canceled all requests sent due to this error.
