According to Sebastian Mattes, editor-in-chief of Handelsblatt, it took a team of 12 journalists six months to evaluate the files. The publication Handelsblatt spoke with dozens of clients mentioned in the files, and received confirmation of resonant information.
In addition, journalists came across instructions for employees, which talked about how to communicate with customers. Employees were prohibited from transmitting reports or text messages about incidents via email or in the form of voice mail records. They were supposed to communicate information to customers only verbally.
Tesla declined to comment on journalists’ requests. The company’s litigation adviser Joseph Alm noted that this data was stolen and its publication in the media is unacceptable.
