Google has developed a special warning for users not to buy cheap set-top boxes running Android.

The company’s specialists claim that set-top boxes of the budget segment are advertised by manufacturers as devices running on Android TV OS. Instead, they have a regular version of Android, which does not comply with special security mechanisms.

Thus, downloading applications to set-top boxes, the user has no protection against possible malicious data that is “wired” into these applications. For comparison: set-top boxes from trusted manufacturers are equipped with Google Play Protect protection, which blocks malware.
