The owner of company X, Elon Musk, in a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that the social network “is switching to a small monthly payment.” He suggests that such a change would be necessary to solve the problem of bots on the platform.

“It’s the only way I can think of to deal with huge armies of bots,” Musk explains.

“Because the bot costs a penny — let’s call it a tenth of a penny — but even if it has to pay… a few dollars or something like that, the effective cost of bots is very high,” he said. In addition, every time the creator of the bot wants to create a new bot, they will need a new payment method.

Musk didn’t say how much the new subscription would cost, but described it as a “small amount of money.”

The owner of the social network also shared new statistics. The site now has 550 million monthly users who generate between 100 and 200 million posts daily.

Note that since Musk took over the platform last year, the company has been pushing its users to subscribe to the paid product X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue). Costing $8 per month or $84 per year, this subscription service offers a plethora of features, such as the ability to edit posts, half the advertising load, priority ranking in search and conversations, the ability to write longer posts, and hiding likes from your followers.

As a reminder, X continues to slowly open competitors’ sites. This practice may become illegal
