At the Connect company’s event, Meta unveiled new AI features for editing images and creating stickers for Instagram.

A tool called “restyle” allows users to mix existing photos into a different look, such as creating collages or overlaying filters for the appropriate style.

The company also introduced a new tool called “background” — an AI-powered generative green screen feature. Users can enter prompts like “put me in front of the majestic aurora borealis” to create a new version of the image with a matching background.

The company didn’t say when these tools will be available to Instagram users, but said the tools will be available “soon.”

They also added that posts created using backgrounds and the updated style will have labels that indicate “the use of artificial intelligence to reduce the likelihood of people getting confused with human-generated content.”

Meta hasn’t said what the labels will look like, but information screens labeled “image generated by Meta AI” have previously been spotted on Instagram.

Meta also revealed new AI-generated stickers that will be available on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook Stories. This feature allows users to quickly create custom stickers for their chats and stories using text prompts. The stickers will be distributed “to select English-speaking users” of the company’s apps “over the next month,” Meta said.

Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly promised that generative AI features will appear in every Meta-owned app. The company also announced more than 25 generative AI chatbots, including several personalities based on real-life celebrities and creators.
