Advertising company X Social Media has filed a lawsuit in federal court against X Corp. Elon Musk due to the renaming of Twitter to X. A Florida-based advertising agency claims that X Corp. guilty of violating Florida general law through “unfair competition and trademark and service mark infringement.” He also says that X is conducting deceptive and unfair trade practices by the state.

X Social Media writes in the complaint that it has consistently used its registered trademark “X SOCIALMEDIA” since 2016. And now “has already suffered a loss of revenue correlated with the rebranding of X Corp. and the use of the ‘X’ mark.”

It is unclear how strong X Social Media’s argument will be. The Verge previously wrote that the “crowded field” of “X” trademarks can complicate the work of companies with such names.
