It’s likely that TikTok is trying an ad-free subscription model. This is not news to social media platforms. Previously, Snapchat introduced Snapchat+ and X (formerly known as Twitter) also introduced its premium options, but for TikTok, it will be a new subscription offering.

Hints of TikTok’s subscription plans were initially spotted by Android Authority. According to the report, the latest version of TikTok has been loaded with new lines of code indicating that the short-form video app is testing an ad-free monthly subscription plan for its users.

According to this study, there could be two options for using TikTok – the standard option, which will remain free and include personalized ads based on your activity, and the “No Ads” option, which will cost $4.99 per month.

As of now, there have been no official announcements from TikTok about it. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that this is just a test, as it’s currently only available to a limited number of users.

Earlier this year, TikTok introduced its marketplace — TikTok Shop — which provided a plethora of features for users, content creators, and businesses. This means that the new ad-free tier can only remove ads that TikTok shows, not those of influencers or their marketing campaigns.
