Apple may announce an unexpected iPad update this week. 9to5Mac reports that Apple will announce spec updates for three of its iPads — the base model, iPad Air, and iPad Mini. In an article for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman wrote that Apple is developing versions of the iPad with new chips.

9to5Mac says Apple will release a press release announcing that the iPad Air and iPad mini will be replaced by M2 and A16 Bionic chips, respectively.

Last year, Apple updated the iPad Air and iPad 10th generation, but it’s been twice as long since the company updated the iPad Mini with the A15 Bionic chip. The article points to rumors that the iPad Mini display controller will be updated.

Other than that, Apple doesn’t have to change anything, so let’s wait to see if the rumors are confirmed this week.

Recall that in September, the iOS 17 update for iPhone was released.
