Canada has banned WeChat and Kaspersky on government devices from October 30, 2023. The reason was the security issues of Chinese and Russian software developers associated with the governments of these countries.

This was reported by Media Safety.

Finance Minister Anita Anand said these apps could threaten the security of data on smartphones.

Representatives of the Russian developer Kaspersky called this ban political. The measure is a continuation of Canada’s cybersecurity strategy, which earlier this year already banned the use of TikTok on government devices. Meanwhile, the U.S. has added Kaspersky applications to its list of national security risks.
