Beatles band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were able to release a new (at the same time old) song thanks to artificial intelligence. The AI helped remove John Lennon’s voice from the old demo so that the singers could finish the song.

The song “Now and Then” is available on streaming services, including YouTube.

The Beatles had already tried to restore the song in the mid-90s, but then it failed, because it was technically impossible to separate the sound of Lennon’s voice from the piano.

However, now special technology has been able to separate the different components of the composition into separate tracks using AI. McCartney added his bass guitar to the old recording, Starr added strings, and producer Giles Martin came up with the arrangement.

“Working on the music of the Beatles in 2023… Wow. We mess around with state-of-the-art technology, which is something that would be very interesting for the Beatles. ‘Now and Then’ is probably the last Beatles song,” McCartney commented.
