Social network X (formerly Twitter) is testing an add-on to the “Communities” feature, which will allow users to create groups to post content with an 18+ rating. Researcher Daniel Buchuk of Watchful, a company that analyzes app development and performance, discovered the new feature through reverse engineering and released screenshots of the interface of future NSFW communities in X. (NSFW – Not suitable/safe for work, a label for resource addresses or hyperlinks that contain nudity, pornography, or profanity, and that should not be opened at work or in public places.)

Last month, the same feature was spotted by independent researcher Nima Owji. It should be noted that X remains the only social network that allows adult content and is the main online advertising platform for sex workers, and the “Communities” function is one of the few that has not changed with the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk. However, explicit content on X is not monetized – except indirectly, through the authors’ access to the target audience, and it is not yet known whether NSFW communities will appear in a public release.
